The Cycle „Far and Away“
In the paintings, which belong to the theme of “Far and Away”, one encounters deserted
landscapes on the one hand and lonely figures on the other in a landscape scenery that is
either close to nature such as a sea coast or far from nature such as an urban landscape.
Different types of loneliness occupy the artist: A loneliness in nature, sought by
ourselves and caused by the landscape, and a loneliness that is often imposed on us
humans by the place and the landscape.
The landscape scenery and sometimes the weather conditions on the pictures reflect their
own internal movements. The many unpredictable storms of life can lead oneself to an
inner return and to a retrospective walk in one’s own life in order to be able to drop
the old and venture the new. Yet also the questions of life, such as one’s own loneliness
in the world and today, as well as the inevitable loneliness of the end of life for each
of us, are reflected in a barren and desolate urban backdrop with its strong counterpoint
elements.
The warm light that appears in all the paintings of this group of works awakens the hope
of overcoming the old, the possible obstacles and dangers, but also sometimes the inner
emptiness and loneliness.
